One thing about a Lowcountry home: There's nearly always a porch, often even two... Because porch sittin' here is a beloved tradition, stretching back generations. Far beyond mere casual pastime, it's a bona fide art. So when we set out to craft our own signature line of outdoor furniture, it absolutely had to be good enough for our own local porches! Our four Durawood collections, though directly inspired by traditional Lowcountry outdoor porch furniture of old, are nonetheless constructed from highest-quality modern synthetic materials, to hold up to even our own heavy coastal weather. All the better to put you in that peaceful, easy porch-sittin' state of mind… OUR DURAWOOD MATERIAL Durawood is HDPE: High-density polyethylene, a polymer (plastic) designed to look and feel like wood. HDPE is all around you: in hula hoops, milk bottles, water pipes, and bottle caps. The HDPE material in your furniture is recycled from items like these. But I don’t want furniture that feels “plasticky.” This furniture feels anything but, largely thanks to extrusion. Extrusion molds the heated HDPE material into long lumber boards, as it were Play-Doh. Through this process, the HDPE gains the shape and texture of wooden lumber. The classic wooden feel, redefined. Poly lumber chairs never require painting: they’re dyed to the core during extrusion. They’re also infused during that process with UV-inhibitors, ensuring a lifetime of vivid colorfastness under the sun. Unlike wood, no moisture can penetrate the material, preventing rot. The polymer is so solidly bonded that it will never splinter nor crack during day to day use. INDUSTRY-LEADING HARDWARE All "Stainless Steel" is NOT Created Equal. Lower quality outdoor furniture manufacturers claim to use stainless steel, but they typically use the minimum 304 standard stainless steel type that shows early and rusty demise when exposed to the elements. It’s Practically Elemental. Unlike our competitors, we use 316 marine grade stainless steel that is resistant to rust caused by moisture and saltwater air found in marine environments. This high-quality steel keeps its shape and integrity even when exposed to major changes in temperature. Because of how well the 316 stainless steel resists corrosion, it is heavily used in naval vessels and submarines. ALL WEATHER RESISTANCE Our all-weather Durawood lumber and high quality 316 marine-grade stainless steel hardware are built to withstand all four seasons and a range of climates including blazing sun, snowy winters, salt spray, and hefty winds. LOW-MAINTENANCE Durawood lumber cleans easily with any cleaning wipes or a soft bristle brush with a mild cleanser. Our furniture does not absorb water and requires no painting, staining, or waterproofing. CLIMATE-FRIENDLY Our Durawood lumber is made from certified HDPE recycled content from consumer plastic waste that's been cleansed for safety and to eliminate impurities. HANDCRAFTED IN THE CAROLINAS Manufactured and assembled in the Carolinas using the finest parts and leading techniques. We back our workmanship in all furniture products for life.
ECO-FRIENDLY DURAWOOD Durawood is a 3/4"-1" thick lumber, compared to 1/2" thick offered by our competitors, thats made from densely compressed recycled plastic milk jugs and soda bottles. It contains no waste-wood fiber so it wont absorb any water and wont rot, splinter or crack. Durawood is fade resistant and will never require paint, stain or any kind of sealant.
STAINLESS STEEL HARDWARE High quality 316 marine-grade stainless steel hardware is used on our outdoor furniture, compared to 304 marine-grade used by our competitors, for superior rust resistance. All hardware is painted to match the color of the furniture and strategically place to conceal each bolt.
FIT N FINISH Every durawood part has a smoothed surface to reduce the amount of crevices where dirt can accumulate and all edges are rounded off for a detailed finish.
MORTISE AND TENON JOINTS We use this ancient form of carpentry, where board meets board, to allow our furniture to fit together and help make it sturdier; rather than just being held together with nuts and bolts.
